Mandatory showers weren't that bad!

It was only girls in the locker room, and we all have the same parts so why be worried about whether or not someone sees you nude?

After the first few showers none of the girls myself included really had a problem with the nudity thing.

I think we had it a lot better in the days of mandatory showers than they do these days where they don't shower after gym class and then they smell disgusting all day long and look terrible from the sweat!

I hated gym class because it always feels like a beauty contest. It's annoying that whenever I put on my Yoga outfit I'm checking the mirror for underwear lines, or that my hair is perfect. Heck, it's annoying that I even have a matching yoga outfit, which naturally has to immitate Lulu Lemon or TNA or else why buy it, right? I think since I've graduated I've been to the gym... maybe once or twice. I agree with your comment that thank God there are other ways to get fit that don't require a self or peer inflicted fashion code.

Anyone remember mandatory showers in junior high and high school, and the girls who loved to show-off what their nude body looked like compared to yours? Or maybe you were one of the girls who already had breasts and pubic hair in the seventh grade, in which case you were one of the ones that I envied?

I am remined of that everytime that I set foot in the women's locker room at my gym.

I wish that I had learned to as comfortable with the locker room nudity as most of the other girls in my gym classes were, then I would be more comfortable with it now!

girl you need to find a better club. as a fitness instuctor i am required to ask if there are "any newbies in the class today" that way we can give exta attention where it is needed. the purpose of classes is instruction not a chance for the instructor to get in a hard core work out. i really hope you reported this to club manager. Maybe it is just a rule where i work but mentioned to a club manager maybe they will also implement this rule at the club you had your misfortunate experience. As an instuctor i really hope you do give classes another chance! And maybe a simple comment to anyone who points and laughs would to simple point out that "if we are all experts in every area then we would have nothing to live for because we would already know it all"

Don't give up

Sue,

Thanks for your comments. I don't know if you noticed, but the entry you commented on was from April 2004. It wasn't the exercise equipment that bothered me so much as the girl mocking me. It reminded me of the many times girls mocked me in exercise classes in junior high and high school. I thought adults were better than that, but it turns out that there are bitches everywhere.

I still go to the gym and I still exercise regularly. I never really mastered the Bosu Ball, but it really felt like it was good for one thing: mastering the Bosu Ball. I never noticed any improvement in my balance or core strength. I think it's a marketing gimmick and toy, just like a lot of other exercise equipment.

I'm glad you've noticed so much improvement, but my entry wasn't really about the Bosu. It was about the way women treat other women in the gym. Exercise classes in particular are hostile environments. Fortunately, they are not the only way to get fit.

I don't know how you found my site, but I want you to know that I write for a health and fitness weblog called Starling Fitness. I hope you enjoy it more than the Bosu Incident entry.

Good Luck,
Laura Moncur

Lady, have you got a complex? I've been exercising on the BOSU for about six months. Yes, it was hard in the beginning but that is what made me want to master it all the more. Since I've been using it, my flexability improved, my balance improved, my posture improved and I feel a lot better. I've been doing it once or twice a week.

Am I a young thing with a tight butt? Tight butt, yes but I'm age 51 with three grown kids and a grandchild on the way. Quit your bitching and whining get rid of the chip on your shoulder regarding the others in your gym or you're going to get really old really fast
