The Last Time We Played Pinochle

This postcard from PostSecret made me really sad and I thought I would write about it a little bit.

The Last Time We Played Pinochle

The last time we played pinochle, I won. It was the first time in years that I won and should have been an indication to me at how sick you were. I took the deck of cards from your house after you died. It was the only time I remember truly winning on my own.

I didn’t even consider letting you win. I wish I had.

  1. That is so incredibly sad. My 88 year old mother is a card-playing shark. I can’t even imagine not playing cards with her. To think about letting her win is even sadder.

  2. I’m sorry for your loss. We don’t know each other yet, and I hope this doesn’t come off as inappropriate, but I think she’s glad you didn’t. My mom is wonderful but she’s a sore loser. What she hates more than losing is people letting her win.

  3. Here’s what I hope and bet–she was happy you had that chance to win because you were soooo going to get whupped next time.

  4. This is my secret from last year. My granny is 99 years old, and feels forgotten. So when we play cards and she wins, she once again feels important.

Thank you for sharing your own story, too.
