Swatch Flex Band Surgery
Ever since I got this Swatch, Jade:
I’ve been racking my brain how to do the same thing for my beloved Lazuli Swatch:
The only suitable band I could find was for Poolhof, but the band has silver highlights instead of gold, which wouldn’t match with the gold flecks and hands of Lazuli.
So, I decided to buy a Jade band AND a Poolhof band and switch the metal highlights on the ends of the flex bands. Here is how I did it.
Pry up the two tabs on one side of the metal highlight with a small screw driver:
Remove the metal highlight:
Unhook the back piece of the metal highlight:
Do the same for the other band. Pry up the two tabs on one side of the metal highlight with a small screw driver:
Remove the metal highlight:
Unhook the back piece of the metal highlight:
Now comes the hardest part. Unhooking the back piece was fairly easy, but getting it back on the other band is a little difficult. I couldn’t take a picture of this because it was a two-handed job AND pretty tricky. Here’s how: Stretch the end of the flex band so that there is a gap between the end and the first link. Slip the back between the end and the link and twist into place. To see how it should fit in, refer to the above photos.
Now, replace the new metal highlight and gently press down on the tabs with a pair of pliers:
Repeat the process for each end of the two flex bands. Here is how my Lazuli looks with its new band:
I also ended up with a Jade band with silver highlights that looks really good with this Mogador (Casbah) Swatch:
Considering how many flex bands Swatch has to offer, you can make almost any Swatch look as good as these two do. Feel free to experiment!
