Perfect Gray Hair

Filed under: General — Laura Moncur @ 5:00 am

Last Tuesday, I sat behind a woman with the most beautiful and perfect gray hair I’ve ever seen.

After the class, I asked her if it was alright if I took a photograph because I liked her hair so much. I’m so glad she said yes.

I’m starting to go gray. I have a bunch of gray hairs and I see them every day. Since my hair grows nearly a half inch a month, I can’t imagine dyeing my hair. The upkeep alone would be too costly and I wouldn’t be able to stand to see my roots growing out. It would be a constant struggle between my thriftiness and my vanity.

My thriftiness has won before the war was ever raged. I would MUCH rather have gray hair and not have to worry about going to the hairdresser’s for a touch up every three weeks.

My kind doesn’t go gray very quickly. When my grandma had an aneurysm, they shaved a portion of her head for her brain surgery. It didn’t help much and I will always remember the short dark hairs that grew back before she died.

I want to live long enough to be this gray.

  1. She does have pretty hair.

I have some white hair. I usually don’t dye it, but when I do, I buy the temporary dye in light colors. I’ve tried blond and light red.

Temp dye only dyes my white hair, so I have highlights for a couple months! It makes really natural looking highlights. Its cheap, and it just fades away so there are no roots growing in to worry about.

  2. When its healthy, gray hair is dramatic and lovely. I have a friend who has been mostly gray since his early twenties, and it looks great on him.

  3. Three months ago-I made the decision to go gray. I had been born with black hair.(began to color it in my late 20’s when the first “grays” came in). I’m a youthful looking 56 year old. My hair color is coming in very much like the hair that was photographed…and I love it!! It really is very flattering and dramatic. Although it’s a long transition (I’m keeping mine long and cutting it every month) there was no easy way to transition. Stripping color really ruins your hair. So I wear it in a bun which I rap with silver white hairbands to blend with the color in the front. I have received many compliments already. My only regret is I wish I’d allowed myself to go gray sooner. I will tell you-it’s a good feeling. Good luck with all those transitioning to gray. My huband-a handsome 57 year old man with white hair-loves my hair!!!

  5. I dyed mine almost 17 years ago because the dye was supposed to run fast and even. I was lied I had roots in 20 days and as I had to wear perfect hair in my job I kept dying it. Now I decided it’s enough. I’ve even bought a wig to wear in my job while my roots grow. I’m looking forward to showing off my now vompletely white mane.
