Celebrity Optical Illusion: What Is Going On Here?
This animated GIF a strange optical illusion that I can’t quite figure out. Stare at the cross in the middle. Really focus on it. When you do, the faces on each side start to appear horribly disfigured, but when you glimpse over at them, they haven’t changed at all.
As far as I can tell, staring at the center cross makes our mind try to merge the two faces, just as it would in a stereogram with the right focal distance. Because the two faces are vastly different, they appear disfigured because our mind has made an amalgam of the two.
